atiba rogers is a writer and
journalist from the island
of trinidad and tobago.
this is her first book of
poetry and she credits her
6th grade teacher for
introducing her to
langston hughes. rogers’
style of poetry is heavily
influenced by hughes’
works, especially since
life ain’t been no crystal
stair for her either.

colossal heart came to
life after deciding to
pursue a “personal legend.”
she found solace in writing
in 2014 after her father was
diagnosed with cancer. atiba
would write past, present
and future thoughts about
life and people in it. she’d
use the notes app on her
iphone 5 to write when she
rode the lirr to stony brook
university. colossal heart is
her baby, her first  poetic mixtape.
